Privacy Policy

Athle (“we”, “us”) is a collection of free daily sports games. We keep data collection to a minimum. You do not need an account to play, accounts that do exist ask for no email address and no password, and we do not sell your personal information. This policy explains what we store and why.

To save your progress, streaks and statistics, Athle stores data in your browser's local storage, for example today's guesses, your win streak, and which sport you last played. Without an account this is the only copy, and you can clear it any time by clearing your browser storage.

The first time you open Athle we create a player record on our server and store an identifier for it, plus a secret device token, in your browser. The record is what lets a result appear on a leaderboard. Until you choose a name it holds nothing that identifies you: no name, no email address, no IP address, and on a group board it appears only as a generated label such as “Player A1B2”.

If you create an account we additionally store the display name you choose and a salted, one-way hash of your recovery code. We never store the code itself, which is why we cannot show it to you again or reset it for you. There is no email address, no password, and no phone number, so there is nothing here that identifies you beyond the name you pick, and you are free to pick one that does not.

The device token authorises writes for your record. Treat it like a password: it is never displayed, and it is what stops someone who reads your player id off a leaderboard from posting results as you.

Your finished daily results are stored against your player record so leaderboards can exist, and they are visible to other people: to the members of any group you join, and, for the current day, on the public Today's world board. A result is the game, the sport, the date and your score.

If you create an account we also keep a copy of your Cabinet, streaks, statistics, saved grids and recent daily boards, so they can follow you to another device. That copy is private to your account and is only ever sent back to a device that proves it holds your device token, or that logs in with your name and recovery code.

We use privacy-friendly, aggregated analytics (such as Vercel Analytics and PostHog) to understand how the game is used, for example how many people play each day and which features are popular. This helps us improve Athle. These tools use their own identifiers to de-duplicate visits; they are not linked to your real-world identity, and they are separate from the player record described above.

Athle may display ads served by third parties such as Google AdSense. These partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show relevant ads and measure performance. You can learn about and control personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings and your browser's cookie controls. Where required, we will ask for your consent before enabling personalised ads.

Beyond the local storage described above, cookies on Athle are primarily used by the analytics and advertising partners listed here. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the game will still work, though your stats and streaks rely on local storage.

Clearing this site's data in your browser removes everything stored on your device. If you have an account, that alone does not remove the server copy, so email us from the address below with your display name and we will delete the record, its results and its synced game data. We cannot verify ownership by name alone, so please include your recovery code, or write to us from a device that is still logged in.

Logging out clears the device but deliberately leaves the account intact so you can come back to it. Note that a player record with no name attached can only be reached by the device that holds its token: if you clear that browser we have no way to identify which record was yours, and no way to delete it on request.

Athle is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
